One Buddha, fifty traditions.

Karma-la's commentary on the Burmese Lokamani Cula Pagoda alone was worth the half-day. He knows each abbot personally. Best for first visit, absolutely.

The walking atlas.

Five monasteries — Burmese, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Bhutanese — in one morning. By the third I understood why Lumbini matters as a global Buddhist commons.

Karma-la is a national treasure.

Cultural historian, gentle storyteller, fluent in three languages. He showed us where the Chinese monastery's roof is unfinished — funding paused in 2020. ₨ 1,800 well spent.

Long walk, bring water.

5 km on foot in the morning sun even in January is real. Pace was good but bring water and a hat. The depth of Karma-la's commentary was unmatched.

The walking ate up my whole day, gladly.

We started at 8am, ended at 1pm, then sat for two more hours at a tea stall talking with Karma-la about the 1986 founding. Best half-day I've had in any pilgrimage city.
