Dr. Aniruddh Pandey

India · April 2026

1920s zamindar house above the Buddha's childhood city.

The library alone is worth the stay — original 1930s archaeology reports on the Tilaurakot dig. Mr. Pandey's guided tour of the unearthed walls at dawn was the highlight of our pilgrimage.

Atmospheric, slightly creaky.

The 1920s bones of the house are magnificent. Plumbing is from a different era — fine, just be ready. The guided ruins walk is genuinely exceptional.

For the serious pilgrim.

If you have come to Lumbini and not yet been to Tilaurakot, you have not finished. Stay here, walk the ruins at sunrise with Mr. Pandey, drink tea on the veranda after. That is the trip.

Questions guests have asked

Q.Is the library accessible to guests?

A.Yes — open to guests during the stay. We have ~600 volumes, including the original 1932 archaeology reports on the Tilaurakot dig. Quiet hours 10am-4pm.

Mr. Pandey · Caroline B. from Germany

Q.How many days needed to do Tilaurakot ruins justice?

A.A focused day with my morning walk + an afternoon at the museum is enough for most. Pilgrims often add a half-day visit to Niglihawa stupa nearby.
